ITOCHU Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. carried out its corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the Cibogo-Cikareo Village, Bandung, Indonesia this year. Our HR department received information that the hills in the vicinity of the village require more trees to fortify the soil structure and prevent landslide during rainy season. Therefore, the employees of ITOCHU Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. were once again transformed into environment rangers to preserve the nature of the Cibogo-Cikareo Village.
On the 30th August 2014, we arrived at the Cibogo-Cikareo Village early in the morning. We were welcomed by a group of courteous local farmers being led by their village chief, Mr. Rachmat. He represented the local villagers to give a speech of welcome and gratitude. Our Managing Director, Imuta san reciprocated with a heart-warming impromptu effort. The participants were later segregated into 5 different groups with the local farmers for the tree-planting mission in different zones.
In nearly an hour, we managed to plant 100 trees with 20 trees contributed by each group. During the process, all participants were able to handle the task well with minimal guidance from the farmers due to similar experience accumulated from our previous CSR activities. After the tree-planting, the villagers rewarded us with delicious fried bananas and succulent oranges. Prior to our departure from Cibogo-Cikareo Village, Mr. Rachmat presented us a certificate of appreciation to sum up yet another successful chapter in ITOCHU Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.’s CSR history.
